The post interview “Thank You” note is NOT dead.

We’ve all been told to send a “thank you” note following a job interview, but how many of us do it?  This duty seems a little old fashioned, and not really appropriate to the film industry, right? Wrong!

“Thank you” emails do not have to be long winded, they can be short and to the point. A quick “thank you” is a good way to stand out, and a good way to be remembered.

A 2nd Assistant Director friend of mine interviewed 6 candidates for on set Production Assistant positions.  He could only hire 5 of the 6.  He felt pretty solid about 4 of the interviewees, but had a hard choice between the 5th and 6th candidate.  He hired the qualified 4 candidates and hesitated on deciding about the final PA to join the team.  He woke up the following morning to a “Thank You” email from candidate 6, and 20 minutes later candidate 6 was welcomed to the team as the final on set PA.

“Thank You” emails can be as simple as,

Dear _____,

Thank you for taking the time to interview me today for the Production Assistant position on <movie or tv title>.  This project sounds very exciting and I hope I can be a part of the team.

Thank you,
